North boy golfers claim finale photo by Bob Pennell KLAMATH FALLS - The North Medford boys golf team slipped past Roseburg by six strokes to win the final regular season Southern Oregon Conference match of the season on Monday at Reames Golf Course. The Black Tornado shot a 331 and finished regular-season play in second place behind the Indians. The District tournament is May 7-8 at the Grants Pass Golf Course. Eric Hill shot a 74 to earn medalist honors for Grants Pass, who finished fifth as a team, while North's Adam Browne and Roseburg's Ryan Malone tied for second with a 77. South Medford, which finished the SOC season in third place, took fourth overall with a 354. Klamath Union grabbed third at 340. The Vikings scored two runs in the top half of the seventh to tie it, but Henry led off the home half with a single. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and came around for the game-winner when Matt Marvin's bunt resulted in an errant throw. Ryan Emery, Henry, Jimmy White and Matt Stone each had two hits to lead the Cougars' (9-9, 7-7 Skyline) offensive attack. In the nightcap, Mazama used five hits, two walks and an error to score five runs in the fifth inning and pull away for the win. Chris Bocchi led the Vikings with three hits, while Gary Wagner and Ryan Broadhead had two hits apiece. Carpenter and Jeter surrendered only one game in their No. 2 doubles match, while Garrard and Stevens shut out their foes to help South (5-6, 2-6 SOC) sweep all nine matches.
