GP bank robbery suspect turns himself in Saturday By Mail Tribune staff May 29, 2022 03:00 PM A A Jackson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said the man decided to give himself up after sleeping for a few hours Denney Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office arrested the suspect in the Monday robbery of First Interstate Bank in the 200 block of Union Avenue in Grants Pass after the man turned himself over to law enforcement. Donald Lawrence Denney Jr., 41, of Lakeside, California, was apprehended Saturday afternoon at a business located in the 9600 block of Old Stage Road in Gold Hill, then transported to Rogue River before being remanded to the Grants Pass Police Department. Lewis said Denney was initially spotted near Gold Hill along Interstate 5 at 6:15 a.m. Saturday by an off-duty area law enforcement officer. The suspect’s car had broken down and he was seen leaving the location on foot. Jackson County deputies began searching for the suspect and brought in K-9 and drone units to aid in the effort. Denney eventually “called in from the Dardanelles Store in Gold Hill to turn himself in. He had been hiding for a few hours and fell asleep,” said Aaron Lewis, sheriff’s office spokesman. “When he woke, he decided he had enough and wanted to give up.” Denney is being held in the Josephine County Jail for third-degree robbery and first-degree theft. His bail is set at $25,000.
