Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend December 11, 2005 McCoy leads Eagle Point to second at Coast Classic Prep Wrestling NORTH BEND — Senior Jake McCoy won the 160-pound championship to lead seven Eagle Point placers at the Coast Classic wrestling tournament Saturday. The strong showing vaulted the Eagles to second place in the two-day, 32-team event. Roseburg won with 164½ points to 159½ for Eagle Point. The Eagles advanced six wrestlers into the semifinals, but only McCoy advanced. McCoy defeated Marques Hase of Redmond, 7-1, in the finals. Other local champions were Tim Endecott of North Medford (275), Nick Amuchastegui of Phoenix (152) and Richard Alves of Grants Pass (145). In the finals, Endecott pinned North Valley’s Brennan Olander at 3:32. Also finishing second was Jesse Swift of Illinois Valley (140) and Kody Sells of Grants Pass (112). Advertisement Eagle Point had four third-place finishers — Randy Pershall (125), Robby Mannenbach (135), Ricky Fletes (145) and Chris Platt (171). Zach Pagnotta of Illinois Valley was fourth at 160, as was Eagle Point’s Spencer Doran (103). North Medford’s Jon Ulrey (135) and Ryan Folsom (171) finished fifth, as did Illinois Valley’s Paulo Rocha (152). Local wrestlers placing sixth were Mike Cowell of Grants Pass (119), Jacob Miller of Illinois Valley (135), Adam Miller of Illinois Valley (145), Zack Giesen of North Valley (171) and Josh Smith of Eagle Point (189). CLOVIS WEST SHOOTOUT — At Clovis, Calif., Crater dropped a lopsided match to the California defending state champion but won its other three dual matches Saturday and placed third. Poway of San Diego routed the Comets, 55-9. Crater in turn defeated Vacaville, 31-30; Vista, 47-29; and Madera, 43-21. Heavyweight Charlie Alexander and 215-pounder Cody Clark each went 7-0 in the two-day event for Crater, and Jon Bernhardt was 6-1 at 152. The victory over Madera was particularly gratifying for the Comets, who had lost to the California school by 21 points the day before. Coach Greg Haga cited impressive performances in rematches by Andrew VanWey at 119, Arin Zon at 135, Will Smith at 145 and Nick Ryan at 189.
