October 19. 2014 2:00AM Marylen Agrell Kocks Marylen Agrell Kocks passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones October 14, 2014, at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Ore. Born in Minneapolis, Minn. in 1929, she often reflected on the natural beauty of the region in which she spent her childhood. Following graduation from the University of Minnesota where she majored in political science and minored in languages, Marylen moved to New York City. She worked for Northwest Orient Airlines as a flight attendant for several years, flying international routes. In the early 1950s she met and married Marvin A. Kocks and they moved to Ashland to raise their family and build a successful dental practice. Following their divorce, Marylen raised their four children as a single parent. Marylen was a charter member of several community organizations including the Guanajuato Sister City Amigo Club, Tudor Guild, and KSOR Listener's Guild. In addition, Marylen was actively involved in the development of a kindergarten program for the Ashland School District. She especially treasured her involvement in Trinity Episcopal Church's SWAT (Sewing Women at Trinity) team. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, three brothers, an infant child, and adult daughter Meredith. She is survived by daughters, Leslie Kocks Silver (Bob) and Dana Kocks Henderson; son, Jonathan Kocks (Rebecca); grandchildren, Christopher, Emily, Erica, and Olivia; great-grandchildren, Braden, Joshua, and Quin; and five nieces and nephews. Marylen's eye for beauty, inquisitive spirit, sense of humor, and loving heart will be missed by her family and friends.
