Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend December 12, 2005 Jim Eisenhard, former Medford planning director, dies on trip Former Medford city planning director Jim Eisenhard died Saturday while on vacation in the Caribbean. He was 61 years old. Eisenhard took over as city planner in 1978 and retired on Jan. 5, 2000 — 25 years to the day after first going to work for the city. Officials said he died of a heart attack. His wife was with him on vacation. During his career with the city, Medford became the first city in the state to have a comprehensive land-use plan. After retiring, he moved with his wife, Barbara Rumer, to Bend. "He was such a great planning director for the city of Medford and he really cared for what he did," said Medford City Councilman Greg Jones. "And he just had such a love for life."
