South Eugene golfer nabs early lead Prep roundup South Eugene's Jimmy White found Rogue Valley Country Club to his liking Friday, carding an opening-round 73 in the 11-team Southern Oregon Invitational. Tournament play concludes today at Grants Pass Golf Club. White has a four-stroke advantage on Roseburg's Jason Gaston for medalist honors heading into today, with South Eugene's Michael Skillern and Roseburg's Tyler Miller another shot back at 78. Leading the local contingent are South Medford's Steve Hilgendorf and Nate Webb, Geoff Davis of Grants Pass and Ashland's Kyle Allred. The four Southern Oregon Conference players each carded 79s in the opening round. South Eugene leads the team standings at 314, with Roseburg in second at 326. Ashland (330), North Medford (331) and Grants Pass (333) round out the top five. The two-day Southern Oregon Invitational also counts as two of the six rounds used to determine the SOC champion. The Black Tornado duo fell shy in the championship match to Jesuit's Katherine Hatch and Deidre Senders, 7-6, 6-2.
