The Medford Fire Department sent four of its five engines to the blaze, which sparked at around 5 p.m. on Sparta Way, just north of Delta Waters Road near Tahitian Avenue. When firefighters arrived they saw people running back into the house attempting to save belongings. Heavy smoke poured from a large bedroom window facing Sparta Way. Soon, heat burst windows to the south and west, which threatened another house. "We were fortunate that there is some space between these homes," Medford fire Chief Dave Bierwiler said. "There was some heavy fire in there." Advertisement Crews knocked the flames down quickly and managed to contain damage to the second floor. The bedroom where the fire started was destroyed. The blaze left one engine to cover the city. That engine was called to a critical medical emergency soon after the fire was extinguished. "We are glad four engines are available, but now there's not another engine free (with) the medical call," Bierwiler said. No one was injured in the blaze.
