Dean Seaney Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Dec. 30, 2014 @ 2:00 am Posted Dec. 30, 2014 @ 2:00 am » Social News October 30, 1923- December 24, 2014 Dean was born in Hammond, Ind. to Octave C. and Phoebe Seaney. He attended Hammond Schools and graduated from High School there. While in High School he played baseball. After high school he moved to Klamath Falls, Ore. and went to work for Metler Brothers Door and Sash Company. Dean served in WWII in the U.S. Army from February 1944 until June 1946 in the European Theater 351st Infantry Regiment 88th Division, Blue Devils. He saw combat in Italy at North Apennines; Po Valley, for which he received citations including the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal WWII, Occupation Medal Germany, and Purple Heart. After the war he returned to Klamath Falls and continued to work at Metler Brothers. He met and courted the love of his life, Frances M. Newell. They married September 18, 1949 in Klamath Falls. In November 1950, he started his apprenticeship as a printer for the Herald and News. Dean stayed in the Army Reserves and served in the Korean Conflict in Japan in 1951. After completing his apprenticeship he moved his family to Medford in 1953 to work at the Mail Tribune until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the ITU union. His wife and he had a motor paper route for the Mail Tribune in the rural Central Point area from 1959-1988. He is survived by his wife, Frances; his three children, Deanna (John) Baker, Marsha (Nick) Miller, and son, Michael Seaney; three granddaughters, Katie (Jeremy) Gabel, Stephanie Seaney, and Charity (Joe Stratton) Miller; three great-granddaughters, Brianna and Caitlyn Stratton, and Kinsley Gabel; five nephews and six nieces. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and sisters, Dixie Bebber, Margaret Harrison, and Trina Schortgen. Dean spent a majority of his time as an active member involved with the American Little League Baseball Division in Medford. He managed the American Little League Vikings Sewing Center Team from 1971 until 1981. He oversaw and participated in the move of the Little League Fields by Miles Field to their current home off of Alba Drive. He annually spent many hours and days maintaining the conditions of the fields there along with the practice field at Wilson Elementary School. He was a paid member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years. As a youth he attended and became a diehard Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed watching the San Francisco 49ers, and he and his wife attended a number of Portland Trail Blazer games. He also enjoyed attending and betting on the horse races in Grants Pass. His wife and he held season tickets for decades for the Medford Black Tornados. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel, 800 South Front Street, Central Point. A private burial with Military Honors will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery on a later date. In lieu of Flowers contributions can be made to: Alzheimer's Association or Shiners' Hospital in Portland Oregon.
