Raiders rally for 56-47 win in tourney tilt CHICO, Calif. -- Southern Oregon University rallied in the second half of its game with Humboldt State Friday, earning a 56-47 women's college basketball preseason victory during the first day of the three-day round robin Coslet Classic. "In the first half we didn't play very well," SOU coach Shirley Huyett said. "In the second half we did a lot better job of making our shots and running our offense." The Raiders turned the ball over 16 times and only shot 25 percent from the field in the first half of play and trailed 25-18 at the half. Turning things around, in the second half Southern Oregon limited its turnovers to four and improved its shooting percentage from the field to 42.4 percent, hitting 2 for 3 from the three-point range. Nada Janackovic led the Raiders with 21 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Teammate Denise Berry added 16 points and nine rebounds. Southern Oregon improves its preseason mark to 3-0 and plays the tournament host team Chico today at 7 p.m. Friday Chico State improved its record to 1-1 with an 87-81 victory over New Mexico (0-3). Humbolt (1-2) plays New Mexico today at 5 p.m. At Chico, Calif. Men's Basketball ARTHERTON, Calif. -- Menlo College's Evan Peterson hit a layup with five seconds to play and Ben Cohn added a free throw as the Oaks registered a 62-60 victory over Southern Oregon in the first game of the Bud Presley Classic round robin tournament. The Raiders watched a 31-20 halftime advantage slip away as they fell to 1-2 on the season. "We didn't shoot very well in the second half," said SOU coach Brian McDermott, whose team shot 33 percent (11-of-33) from the field in the seconds half "Our defensive intensity in the second half was not good and we allowed them back in it to easily." Amos Baker led the Raiders with 18 points and nine rebounds. Cohn had 12 for Menlo.
