However, there is something on the page showing the results for the state measures that I do not understand. After showing the percentage of YES votes and that of the NO votes, there are two statistics with the titles "undervotes" and "overvotes." Could you please explain what these represent? — David H., Medford The words "undervote" and "overvote" sound a bit peculiar at first glance, David. Their definitions, however, are fairly straightforward. An undervote occurs when a ballot fails to include a vote on a particular candidate or measure. An overvote, on the other hand, means someone voted twice on a particular candidate or measure, thus nullifying the vote. The next time you turn in a ballot but fail to vote, for example, on a particular candidate, you can safely say yours is an undervote in that race, David.
