Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend August 28, 2005 Raiders off to 4-0 start LEWISTON, Idaho — The 11th-ranked Southern Oregon University volleyball team is off to the program’s best start since 1997 as a result of posting a 4-0 record at the season-opening NAIA Region I Challenge on Saturday. The Raiders survived a five-game scare from upset-minded Westminster, Utah and easily swept Montana State-Northern Saturday to finish as the eight-team tournament co-champion along with 22nd- ranked Cascade Conference rival Northwest University. Senior libero Kristen Lilly collected a personal-best 34 digs and senior middle Nicholette Le Bel racked up 18 kills and four blocks to help SOU record a 27-30, 30-18, 30-25, 27-30, 15-9 triumph against Westminster (1-3). Senior Haley Phillips, who typically serves solely in a defensive role, accumulated 12 kills along with nine digs in the left outside hitter position. Le Bel (nine kills) and junior hitter Rachael Baran (eight kills in 25 swings without error) paced SOU against MSU-Northern (1-3), which committed 17 attack errors and mustered a .030 offensive efficiency. The Raiders aim to extend a 19-match McNeal Pavilion win streak 7 p.m. Tuesday against 19th-ranked Savannah College of Art & Design.
