Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 12, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted May. 12, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News May 12, 1915 DANCING TEACHERS PAY THE FIDDLER ASHLAND, May 12 — As the outcome of participating in a recent dance at the armory, several local teachers may perhaps experience a change of environment. This dance was not a formal one, it being simply a pleasing accompaniment to a big May party given for the advancement of civic improvement projects. The entertainment was held on a Friday evening and in no ways interfered with urgent school duties. nevertheless, those teachers who danced were required to appear and show cause why they should not be disciplined. Those who plead guilty and threw themselves upon the mercy of the school board were retained and "paroled" on probation, while others resigned to spot, to take effect at the present term. A pleasing denouement, however, to what threatened to become an unpleasant complication, is that in the main the resignations were but perfunctory, inasmuch as Cupid had already perfected arrangements for a number of early weddings in this vicinity, with Ashland teachers in the role of happy brides. The "sympathy" of the entire community goes out to these instructors in this the honor of their jubilation, and neither is Cupid's action in the premises considered to be "contempt of court." LIBERTY BELL TO STOP IN MEDFORD The Liberty Bell, the most cherished relic of American history, will pass through Medford next July, date yet unknown. It is planned to have the bell make the trip across the country on a special train, thus allowing for ample stops at all points on the schedule. Besides Medford, the bell will stop in Portland, Eugene, Grants Pass and Ashland in western Oregon. It will leave Philadelphia July 3. The story of the Liberty Bell is known to every man, woman and school child. Recently the city of Philadelphia city council ordered that the heavy clapper be removed for the trip across the country as a precautionary measure against damage.
