Central Point man dies in truck rollover A Central Point man died after flipping his pickup truck on an icy patch of Highway 62 early Thursday, but his brother walked away from the accident. John William Douglas, 53, and his brother, Jerry Wayne Douglas, 49, also of Central Point, were northbound on Highway 62 just north of Union Creek at the time of the crash, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. John Douglas was apparently driving a Ford Ranger pickup on a sweeping curve when the truck hit a slick spot, slid off the road and overturned. The truck hit a tree, crushing the driver's side door, before landing upside-down on rocks next to the Rogue River. John Douglas died before police or medical workers arrived, sheriff's deputies said. Although there have been other accidents there, Sgt. Terry Larson said he could not recall many with such serious results. "But that stretch of road any time in the winter can be pretty treacherous," he said. Both men were wearing seat belts. Jerry Douglas was able to get out of the truck and walk to the Union Creek Store, about a quarter mile away, to call for help. Mercy Flights took him to Providence Medford Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition Thursday. A nursing supervisor said he was being treated for cuts and bruises.
