North avenges loss to Ashland netters North Medford used a strong showing in singles to reverse an early-season 5-4 loss to Ashland in Southern Oregon Conference boys tennis Tuesday. The Black Tornado won four of five singles matches and one doubles to defeat the Grizzlies 5-4 at District Courts. In the premier singles match, freshman Tyler Wilson picked up his third SOC win without a loss by handing Aaron Harris a 6-2 , 7-6 defeat. Wilson's consistency throughout the match proved to be the difference according to North Medford first-year coach Chad Empee. Wilson prevailed in the second set on a 7-5 tiebreaker by keeping the ball in play. "He (Wilson) kept his composure," said Empee. "It came down to which one wanted it more." The Black Tornado (5-1 SOC) proved effective in No. 2 and 3 singles with Jeremy Leever and Swedish foreign exchange student Andre Neilsson, who both posted straight-set victories. But the decisive match came down to No. 2 doubles, where North's Andrew Theen and David Mostue avenged an earlier-season three-set loss to Jake Doty and Jake Morris with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
