Pilots bombard Colts in sweep ASHLAND - Jayson Schroeder pitched a one-hit shutout during a five-inning, 10-0 win for the Ashland Pilots in Game 1 of an Area 4 American Legion baseball doubleheader sweep of the South Medford Colts on Tuesday. The Pilots (23-2, 15-1 league) dusted off South in the nightcap, 13-2 in five innings. Schroeder surrendered only a third-inning single during the five-inning contest and allowed only four baserunners en route to his fourth victory in as many attempts. Titus Weston, Mike Allen, Nick Danis, Tim Hegdahl and Zach Miedecke each had two hits for the Pilots. In Game 2, Bill Rowe belted a two-out, two-run homer, his seventh of the season, to help Ashland secure the sloppy five-inning win. South Medford committed five of its seven errors in a nine-run fifth inning for the Pilots. Rowe also smacked a pair of doubles, while Danis added three RBIs. Ashland next plays host to Phoenix at 1 p.m. on Saturday. NORTH MEDFORD MAVERICKS 19-4, NORTH JACKSON ROYALS 9-14 - North Medford and North Jackson traded a pair of 10-run victories in an American League A Area 4 doubleheader Monday at Miles Field. In Game 1, Beau Hovland and Manny Alegria sparked North Medford with two hits and four RBIs apiece. Hovland connected for a three-run double in the second inning. J.C. Rowley added two hits and two RBIs for the Mavericks. For the Royals, Ryan Garrett accounted for three doubles and four RBIs. In the second game, North Jackson's Chris Boyd went 4-for-5 and scored three runs. Boyd ended the twin bill 6-for-8. Rowley had another productive game for North Medford in the nightcap with three hits and one run and Jimmy Ulrey added two hits.
