Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend February 12, 2006 Raiders move into tie for first with triumph CALDWELL, Idaho — The Southern Oregon University men’s basketball team completed its third consecutive sweep of the annual Eastern Oregon-Albertson road trip with an 83-76 Cascade Conference victory at Albertson College Saturday. The win allowed the NAIA 10th-ranked Raiders (23-5, 12-4 Cascade) to move into a first-place tie with third-rated Warner Pacific (22-6, 12-4 Cascade) with two regular-season contests remaining for each squad. Senior forward Shea Washington scored 19 of his game-high 25 points in the second half, grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and swatted four shots to spearhead Southern Oregon’s seventh straight win over the Coyotes (11-15, 8-9). SOU led 31-14 with six minutes left in the first half, but Albertson rallied, taking a 53-52 lead on a Derek Brown steal and layup with nine minutes left. Tied 59-all with 6:11 remaining, the Raiders got a Matt Cowell layup and a Washington three-point play to take the lead for good. Senior wing RaShawn McAllister, who scored 18 to lead SOU past Eastern Oregon 67-61 in La Grande Friday night, added 19 points on a 7-for-14 shooting performance. Advertisement Senior post Jeff Williams had 10 points and seven boards. As a team, SOU shot 52 percent for the game (27 of 52) while holding the 3-point-oriented Coyotes to a 40-percent effort (27 of 67), including a 9-for-31 clip from 3-point range (29 percent). The victory secured Southern Oregon’s winningest men’s basketball season since the record-setting 24-3 1947-48 campaign. The Raiders could secure no worse than a second consecutive conference co-championship and home-court advantage through the league tournament semifinals with wins at home against Concordia Friday and Corban Saturday. In the event of a first-place deadlock with SOU, Warner Pacific would earn the No. 1 postseason seed and an automatic berth to the NAIA Division II Tournament based on a 2-0 head-to-head record against the Raiders.
