Pirates swim to third place in four-way EUGENE -- Phoenix's boys and placed third in a four-way swim meet held at Echo Hollow Pool Saturday. The Pirates scored 46 points in the boys meet, finishing behind Junction City (60) and Marist (50), led by Kris Kizer's school-record 200 freestyle time. Kizer snapped his own school mark of 2 minutes, 6.12 set in the 1998 district meet, with a 2:02.36 first-place effort. Kizer also turned in a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle in 5:45.00. Teammate Mike Oxendine brought home first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly (57.86) and the 100 backstroke (1:08.47) and Jake Helfrich was second in the 100 freestyle (57.53). The Phoenix boys also turned in a second-place performance in the 400 freestyle relay (3:45.67) and third in the 200 medley relay (2:03.78). Kristen Heath led the girls effort as the Pirates finished with 31 points behind LaSalle (67) and Marist (59). Heath set a school record in the 50 freestyle (27.54) for first place, better her own mark of 27.61 in December 1997. Heath also took first in the 400 freestyle (5:54.95). and guided the 200 freestyle relay squad to a first place finish, falling .13 seconds short of the school record. She also led the 400 freestyle relay to a third-place performance (4:38.88). Teammate Tristan Clouse was the only other top three-placer, finishing third in the 400 freestyle (7:03.14).
