Organization: Does the writer use a logical sequence in presenting ideas and information? Is the essay broken into appropriate paragraphs? Are transitions (from sentence to sentence, paragraph to paragraph) smooth? Word Choice: Is wording clear and straightforward? Does wording clearly communicate information? Is there an economical use of words? Strong, active verbs? Fresh words and phrases? Conventions: Does the essay show "mechanical polish"? Are spelling, punctuation and usage correct?
