State softball tournament begins Friday Jul 09, 2009 12:00 AM A A The Oregon State 14-under A Division ASA softball state tournament will be held Friday through Sunday at U.S. Cellular Community Park. A pair of local teams — the Black Tornado Fastpitch and the Comets of Central Point — are included in the 16-team double-elimination event. The Comets open at 4 p.m. Friday against Thunder Softball of Hillsboro, while the Black Tornado plays the Slyders of Salem at 6 p.m. Games will be played from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday. The championship bracket takes place on Sunday. The state champion receives a berth into the national tournament the first week of August in Marietta, Ga.
