The wild mustard is spreading I've noticed a lot of yellow flowers in the orchard north of Vilas Road and west of Foothills Road. I don't think they are welcome there, but I have never seen this plant in this area. What is it? -- Karl G., Central Point You're seeing wild mustard out there in the orchards, Karl. You may not have seen mustard out in that orchard before, but it's a common sign of spring in farm fields across the Rogue Valley. Wild mustard often sprouts in newly disturbed areas. You'll notice that the mustard is thickest in the section of the orchard that has been newly planted on berms. Raising the trees off the thick heavy clay improves drainage around the roots.
