Though considered by police as armed and dangerous, an unarmed Wade Katzenbach, 37, of Phoenix, was arrested without incident about 3:45 p.m. by Jackson County sheriff’s deputies near the intersection of Hamilton and Upper Applegate roads. Police were sent there on a tip by a motorist who recognized Katzenbach from news reports, sheriff’s Capt. Joe Puckett said Monday evening. "He’s been very cooperative," Puckett said. "He’s out there helping us look for the guns he stashed." Advertisement Police have scoured the woods above the Applegate Valley since an attack on a Phoenix woman Saturday morning. Authorities said the woman, who is acquainted with Katzenbach, met him along a Hamilton Road pullout early Saturday to discuss details of a pending civil lawsuit. Katzenbach allegedly became angry, then assaulted the woman there and forced her into his pickup truck at gunpoint, Puckett said. He then drove to the Yale Creek area, where he allegedly raped her then left her along the roadway, Puckett said. Police believe Katzenbach then drove a short distance to where he abandoned his truck. He armed himself with a pistol, shotgun and rifle before disappearing into the woods, sheriff’s Sgt. Marty Clark said. The victim was treated for her injuries Saturday at Providence Medford Medical Center, then released. Deputies were joined by officers from the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service in searching for Katzenbach. When confronted by deputies, he was wearing the same camouflage T-shirt, blue jeans and black boots in which he was last seen, Puckett said. "He was dirty," Puckett said. "Obviously, he spent a couple days in the woods." Puckett said he expects Katzenbach, of the 1800 block of Camp Baker Road, to be lodged at the Jackson County Jail on charges of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree rape and likely one assault charge. Katzenbach had not been lodged as of Monday evening.
