Taxpayers in Talent will get revised bills TALENT -- Almost 2,200 taxpayers will be receiving a second tax bill this week after an error was discovered in the calculation for the Talent Urban Renewal District. "The good news is that it's all going down," said Jackson County Assessor Dan Ross. Corrected tax bills were mailed out Wednesday and will lower property tax bills anywhere from $1 to $1,000. The average decrease is $24, said Ross. Tax payments are still due by Nov. 15, but taxpayers who own Talent property should wait to receive a corrected bill before paying their tax. Those who have already made a payment will get a refund check from the county, but only after it has processed all tax payments. Expect a check around the beginning of December, said Gary Cadle, Jackson County finance director and treasurer. Ross said only after tax bills were mailed out last week did staff realize they had inadvertently left out the city's annexation into Fire District 5. The result was that the Urban Renewal District figures were higher than they should be. Even with the additional fire protection taxes, total tax bills will decrease. The actual 1999 tax rate for Talent property is $15.9893 per $1,000 of assessed value. Anyone with questions about a bill may call the assessor's office at 774-6059.
