Grizz girls roll in Alaska tourney KETCHIKAN, Alaska The Ashland girls basketball team had little trouble against Wrangell, Alaska, in a 54-25 rout at the Alaska Tournament Monday. The Grizzlies shook off the effects from a long travel day Sunday with an 11-0 first-quarter advantage. Ashland upped the lead to 27-8 at the half and cruised from there to their fourth victory in seven games. "They were a good team to play because of the long travel day," said Ashland coach Heather Roberts. "We played pretty good defense to start the game, and our offense started to come around toward the end of the first (quarter) and continued into the beginning of the second period." Jackie Woods led all scorers with 16 points while Marla Morin tacked on 13 and Lindsay Huyett added eight.
