Brown advances to semifinals BEAVERTON - North Medford girls tennis singles star Jenny Brown moved into the semifinal round Friday of the Class 4A state tournament at the Portland Tennis Center. The top-seeded Brown took out second-round foe Autumn Gregory of McMinnville, 6-1, 6-1, then breezed past Jesuit's Deidre Sanders, 6-2, 6-0 in the quarterfinal round. Brown will face third-seeded Nicole Jackson of Lake Oswego today at 9 a.m. In doubles, Leslie Schultz and Annie Chaney also moved into the semifinals with 6-0, 6-0 wins over first-round foes Elizabeth Edwards and Becky Mahar of Lincoln and second-round opponents Stephanie Clark and Taylor Reiss of Tualatin. In the quarterfinals, the fourth-seeded North tandem downed Jesuit's Preston Neupert Young Nelson, 6-0, 6-1. Schultz and Chaney will face fifth-seeded Ashley and Cristin Sammis of Cleveland today at 10 a.m. In boys, North's Tyler Wilson dropped a second-round match to Putnam's Spencer Straub, 6-3, 6-4, while Andre Nilsson fell to No. 1 seed Beau Smith of Cleveland, 6-3, 6-2 loss. North Medford's Jeremy Leever and Dru Phillips got past first-round opponent Sean Ogle and Matt Sherman of Churchill, 6-2, 6-4 in doubles but came up short in the second round, 6-3, 6-4 to Wilson's David Schunk and Eric Pickard.
