Lee Flink Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Feb. 15, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Feb. 15, 2015 at 2:00 AM »  Social News F. Lee Flink passed away February 5, 2015 at the age of 96 in Medford, Ore. Lee was born October 11, 1918 in Bloomington, Ill. to Frank and Edith Flink. He was married July 26, 1940 to Catherine Havens. Lee joined the U.S. Navy and became an air traffic controller. He continued his career as a civilian and retired as the chief controller in Medford, Ore. He was also an accomplished pilot. He was one of the first Mercy Flights pilots in Medford. Lee was also a talented fast pitch softball player in his younger days and enjoyed refereeing basketball. Later in life, Lee's true passion became golf. He became an excellent player. On his 90th birthday he shot a round of 89. He was quite proud that the round was under his age. Lee was a charter member and past president of Rogue Valley Country Club. He loved the club and enjoyed the friendships he developed there. At the age of 94 he received his 70-year recognition pin in a ceremony at the Elks lodge. Lee was also a 32 degree Mason. Lee is survived by his three children, Frances and husband, John Laird, Barbara and husband, Ike Thomas, and Rich Flink and girlfriend, Judi Yazzie; grandchildren, Val Darling, Mike Thomas, Brett Englestadter, Jeff Englestadter, Melinda Burtenhouse, Diana Cooper, and Krystal Compton; and several great-grandchildren. We would also like to mention his friends Monica Faircy, Tom Biddle, Jim Biddle, LeAnn Maupin, Bill Putnam, and Bob Maentz. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and baby boy, Francis, and his brother, Leon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lee's name to the charity of your choice. Per his request, no service will be held. Finally, a special thank you to the staff of Wynwood (Brookdale) in Medford and Marcella Christensen at Home Senior Solutions for their amazing care over the last two years.
