Bridgeview brings home award from competition A wine from Cave Junction is the co-winner of "Best of Show" honors at the 2000 Oregon State Fair. Bridgeview Vineyards 1999 Pinot Noir Oregon was named the best red wine in the state fair�s professional wine competition. The 1998 Pinot Gris Reserve from King Estate of Eugene was voted best white wine. Awards were announced in Salem Thursday night, although the competition was held in June. Judges sampled 185 wines from 43 wineries. Besides the two "best of show" designations they awarded 15 gold, 33 silver and 48 bronze medals. Fewer than a third of the state�s 145 wineries sent entries. Among those not entering this year were Ashland, Foris, Valley View and Weisinger�s � all Rogue District wineries. Bridgeview also won a gold medal for its 1999 Pinot Gris, a silver for 1999 Gewurztraminer and bronzes for 1999 Late Harvest Gewurztraminer Ice Wine, 1997 Black Beauty Oregon Merlot and 1996 Red Cedar Estate Reserve Pinot Noir. Bear Creek Winery, also of Cave Junction, won silver medals for its 1997 Lot 100 Rogue Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and 1998 Rogue Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Bear Creek�s 1997 Rogue Valley Merlot got a bronze. One other local medal winner was a sparkling wine from the Applegate Valley, John Michael Champagne Cellars 1996 Chardonnay Rogue Valley. It earned a bronze. And one of the other gold medal winners was made with Applegate Valley grapes � the Salem area�s Eola Hills 1997 Wooldridge Creek Reserve Merlot. Wooldridge Creek Vineyard is near the town of Applegate.
