Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend December 12, 2005 Help needed to write next chapter in family’s ‘success story’ EDITOR’S NOTE: " Light One Candle" is an annual Mail Tribune feature that focuses on the single need of an individual, family or agency during the holidays. By JONEL ALECCIA Mail Tribune Cheryl Collins was there at the start, when the young parents tested positive for methamphetamine use and realized they could lose their children — for good. Nearly a year later, the caseworker for OnTrack Inc., a local drug treatment agency, is grateful to report more positive news. "They’re my number one success story," says Collins, who supervises 52 clients. "And I don’t have a lot of success stories." He’s 28 and she’s 24 and together they’re the parents of three girls, ages 1½ , 3 and 4. In the past year, they’ve kicked their drug habit, found an apartment and managed to focus their attention once again on their children. Advertisement The young mother works a minimum-wage job at a local discount store. The young father stays home to take care of their daughters. Collins feels hopeful about their future and wants to encourage further success by providing a little holiday help. She says the family could use some help with a necessary expense: disposable diapers. The little girls can only wear Huggie diapers, their mom says. Along with the diapers, a double stroller would be welcome. The family also needs a floor lamp and a set of good, sturdy dining room chairs.
