Ashley Lara, a spokeswoman for Fire District 3, said dispatchers took a call around 10:30 this morning reporting that a man had fallen from the viewpoint overlooking the waterfall. "There were actually four people hiking by the viewpoint," Lara said. "The husband of one of the visitors was actually taking a picture when he backed up too far and fell." Lara said the man fell between 75 and 100 feet. Firefighters from Prospect Rural Fire Protection District were first on the scene, followed by Shady Cove Fire District 4, Mercy Flights and deputies from Jackson County Sheriff's Department. Jackson County Fire District 3 provided its technical rescue team, which proved critical in recovering the man's body, she said. The name of the victim, who was visiting from Washington, was not immediately available. "The sheriff's office may be releasing that later today," she said.
