Light bulb collection site listed What is your average consumer supposed to do with burnt-out fluorescent light bulbs? Rogue Disposal doesn't allow them in the waste stream. Last time I checked, they weren't accepting them at the disposal center for recycling, either; forget about putting them in your weekly recycling bin. You can't even unload them at the hazardous waste disposal events. I talked with my employer, who has the same problem. They PAY to have a California firm come up and truck the old bulbs away. What are we supposed to do with these things? -- David S., Medford Actually, David, Rogue Disposal does accept fluorescent bulbs. You don't even have to wait for a hazardous waste event. You can take the lamps to the transfer station at Table Rock Road for disposal. Cost is $1 per 4-foot bulb. Don Cordell of Rogue Disposal says the company ships them to Portland, where they are crushed and the mercury from them collected. The state Department of Environmental Quality classifies the bulbs as universal waste, a category that requires businesses, but not individuals, to recycle them.
