Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend November 26, 2005 Santa comes to Medford Medford’s holiday celebration begins with a candy cane hunt and marshmallow roast at 3:30 p.m. today at Hawthorne Park at Hawthorne and Main streets, sponsored by the Medford Parks and Recreation Department. The candy cane hunt, for ages 1 to 12, and the marshmallow roast, for ages "1 to 112," are free to the public. Medford’s tree-lighting and caroling celebration will be held 5 to 8 p.m. at Vogel Plaza. The intersection of Central Avenue and Main Street will be closed, and Mayor Gary Wheeler will light the tree at 6:45 p.m. Free hot chocolate, coffee and roasted chestnuts will be available at the event, which is free and open to the public. There will be performances by the North Medford High School Brass Quintet and South Medford Ensemble Choir, as well as soloist Megan Muriset. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand to hear Christmas wishes. The St. Mary’s Choir will lead caroling. Medford’s Winter Light Festival nearly went dark this year until downtown business owners juiced up enthusiasm for the 15th annual event. Linda Lincoln, branch manager of the downtown US Bank, is the coordinator of the event, along with Scott Henselman of Henselman Realty and Management, Renae Dixon of Key Bank, Ron Flamm of Hot Pots and Eric Maxwell of Papillon Rouge.
