North boys record 2-0 win on road REDMOND North Medford scored once in each half and blanked Redmond 2-0 Saturday in its final tune-up for the Southern Oregon Conference boys soccer campaign. Scott Jolly received a touch pass from Kedrick Charlton and promptly deposited it in the goal from 8 yards out with 18 minutes left in the first half. Midway through the second half, Colin Hunter converted on Dustin Wallaces well-placed corner kick, scoring from 18 yards out. North Medford coach Rich Garcia pronounced the Tornado (3-1-2) ready for SOC play after his teams fourth game in six days. "Last year, we got scored on a lot in the first five minutes," Garcia said. "Wed get off to sluggish starts and we needed to improve on that. "Our defense provides the spark weve needed on offense. We need to play like that consistently." ST. MARYS 1, NORTH VALLEY 0 At Merlin, Matt Burt scored the games only goal 18 minutes into the first half as St. Marys improved to 3-0 in non-league action. Burt volleyed in a cross from Zack Rote from about 6 yards out. Sweeper Jordan Frankel and Brian Staver played well defensively as goalkeeper Greg Gradwell recorded his third shutout. HIDDEN VALLEY 5, MAZAMA 0 At Klamath Falls, high-scoring Matt Johnson tallied three goals as Hidden Valley opened District 6 action. Hidden Valley (4-1, 1-0 Dist. 6) took a 3-0 halftime lead on goals by Evan Cope, Johnson and Irie Spann. Johnson notched two more goals late in the second half. Senior Cody Borta assisted on two of Johnsons scores. Goalie Tim Vanderstoel wasnt challenged in the net for the Mustangs because of the tight defensive efforts by sweeper Trevor Nowak and Brock Inghram. Hidden Valley had a 35-5 advantage in shots on goal Obituaries | Sports | Business | Classifieds | Tempo | Prime Times | So Oregon Sites | Outdoor Journal | Subscribe | Contact | Movies | Advertise | Real Estate Showcase | Archive | Editorials | Letters to the editor | Religion | Wake-up Call | NIE | Cyber Chef | Job Network | So Oregon Weather | WSJ Northwest | Forums | AP Wire | AP Money | F.A.Q. | Awards Ottaway Newspapers, Inc.
