SOU women back on winning track CHICO, Calif. -- The Southern Oregon University women's basketball team bounced back from two losses at the Coslet Classic to garner a 71-62 win on Sunday over Menlo College from the Bay Area. Southern Oregon held Menlo to 36-percent shooting from the field in the first half en route to a 31-27 lead at the break. The Raiders extended the lead in the second-half behind the pressure defense of Liz Bresman and Tiwana Merrit. "Liz and Tiwana caused them (Menlo) a lot of pressure in the second-half," said Southern Oregon coach Shirley Huyett. "They really kept them from getting into the things they wanted to do offensively." Southern Oregon (3-2) shot 19 percent with 14 turnovers in the first half of Saturday's loss to Chico State, but threw the ball away 17 times for the entire game. SOU also shot nearly 50-percent, while forcing Menlo College into 23 turnovers and 40 percent shooting. "By not turning the ball over so much we had much better shots," said Huyett. "It allowed us to get into our offense." Sarah Petersen led the Raiders' scoring attack with 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting with six boards. Lauren Mohan was perfect from the floor with 12 points, including 3-of-3 from three-point range to go along with a team-high six assists. Alison Richards and Melissa England also scored in double figures with 10 points apiece with Richards adding five assists and four steals.
