The Comets (6-12, 5-6 MWL) belted out 20 hits overall and built a double-digit lead through only two innings en route to the victory. Sydney Beck went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs, Tristin Fisher was 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs, Mackenzie Ryerson 2-for-2 with one run and five RBIs and Bayley Jensen 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBIs to pace Crater. “Overall our kids’ approach was different today and that definitely was the difference for us,” said Crater head coach Chris Arnold. “I think we were a little more cautiously aggressive if that makes any sense. Our hitters are getting better with reading their zones and knowing their zones and that mental shift paid dividends.” Abbi Pearce, Brie Sheperd and Simone Turituri each added two RBIs for the Comets. Grace Lenthe smacked a solo home run in the second, doubled in the fourth and scored both runs for Ashland (10-9, 4-7), which added a Teresa Lehman single as its only other hit. The Vikings (13-5, 6-1 Sky) scored six unearned runs in the third inning to take a 9-0 lead. For Phoenix (7-9, 3-4), Tiana Hurd, Sara Saurman and Alyssa Wallack collected two hits each.
