Mail Tribune 100: Aug. 5, 1915 The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago. Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 5, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Aug. 5, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Aug. 5, 1915 WATER PURER THAN FOR YEARS AT THIS SEASON There is less contamination of the water supply of Medford at present than shown in any of the former tests made at this season of the year, according to a statement issued by Water Superintendent O. Arnspiger today, as follows: To City Water Users: On the trip to Fish Lake recently taken by members of the city council, and City Health Officer F.G. Thayer, samples of water were taken from the upper end of Fish Lake, the lower end of Fish Lake, the city intake and from a faucet in the city, and sent to the laboratories of the State Board of Health at Salem. the report shows a less degree of contamination than former tests made at this season of the year. Signed, O. Arnspiger, Water Superintendent. Superintendent Arnspiger also announced today that irrigation hours would be suspended in the city next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday while the city reservoir was being cleaned. Foreign matter found in the pipes is attributed to this source. Until the reservoir is cleaned, it is urged that all water be filtered. VALLEY'S MODEL FARM CONDUCTED BY YOUNG WOMAN The August number of "Orchard Home" contains as cover design a photograph of the farm and orchard home of Mrs. J.E. Bodge on Ross Lane and under the caption of "Rogue River Model Farm," an article by the editor describing Mrs. Bodge's farm as follows. "It is a big job to find a farm in any district that comes up to what a farm in theory ought to be. Try to think of someone in your vicinity who is conducting his farming operations in every particular both wisely and well and getting results that a person wanting to see the right farming for the district would go to see. Such farms are few and far between. "Mrs. J.E. Bodge of Medford in the Rogue River Valley, Oregon, has a farm that is worth owning. It is not the fact that she is a woman farmer, doing with her own hands much of the farm work, that makes her farm worthy of attention; it is the fact that the farm itself is a model of neatness and efficient management, and second, a great success in crop production and financial profit, all of this without more than the ordinary expenditure of money or labor.
