Mail Tribune 100: May 9, 1916 The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 9, 2016 at 12:01 AM Posted May. 9, 2016 at 12:01 AM » Social News May 9, 1916 SENIOR PROGRAM ENJOYED BY MANY Senior night at the high school was quite a pretentious affair in the annals of the local institution. A large audience of parents, students and others enjoyed a most entertaining program at the high school auditorium last night. Through Seeress Margaret Mansfield the class prophecy was given and the class will, making generous bequests to the class successors, was offered, together with the class song and the class yell. It was essentially a class affair and a high-class rendition of a very attractive program. Hugo Lumberg assisted the prophetess in that feature of the evening's exercises. The stage setting was made to represent a rustic scene in a wild grove, evergreen boughs being so arranged as to produce a very rural effect, with a campfire at each end of the stage. Ten years were supposed to have passed from the date of this class graduation when the prophet, instead of foreseeing what each student would accomplish in that period, told what each one had done. As each name was called, that person stepped from the recesses of the forest and received the "prophecy." Each student of the class was attired in occupational dress representing the profession, trade or craft at which he or she had been employed during the period covered by the prophecy. The scene was charmingly Oriental, the music, both vocal and instrumental, was excellent, and those who attended were highly pleased with the entertainment in an event of practical and sentimental interest to all. ANTIOCH ITEMS The directors of the Antioch school have engaged Mrs. Arthur Jones to teach the fall term of school. Mrs. Jones, as Miss Alberta Stacy, was one of the best teachers in the county, and we congratulate the directors in getting such a teacher for their school, and we hope to see new life put into the pupils and the school and we hope the patrons will cooperate to make her term a successful one.
