Ryan will be appearing in a concert of solo acoustic blues and originals Saturday in Ashland. Bluesman Walker T. Ryan will be appearing in a concert of solo acoustic blues and originals Saturday in Ashland. He will also be teaching a guitar workshop at 1 p.m. that day. Walker was last seen in Ashland when he appeared with blues legends Honeyboy Edwards and Mary Flower at the 2005 Rogue Valley Blues Festival. Influenced by the best in the genre, Walker has been a force in West Coast blues music since arriving in Claremont, CA via the 60s music scene in Greenwich Village, NY. He has opened for musicians such as The Righteous Brothers, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Taj Mahal, David Lindley, Kelly Joe Phelps, The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Steppenwolf. Walker's sound and style have remained true to his vision and love for solo, acoustic, old-style blues. Walker's appearance in Ashland is part of a West Coast tour that will take him to Santa Fe, NM where he will record his third CD project. The CD will be produced by Kenny Passarelli, former bass player for Elton John and, most recently, producer for albums by Otis Taylor. Walker will hold a hands-on workshop, an Introduction to Bottleneck Delta Guitar, from 1""3 p.m. on the day of the show, Saturday, June 10, at Mojo Rising. Cost for the workshop is $25 for those with a guitar and $15 for those who wish to participate without a guitar. Participants should have a working familiarity with basic guitar chord structures and have a strong sense of rhythm and timing. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the workshop starts. Full participants are welcome to bring audio and video recording devices.
