No. 7 Raider grapplers romp past No. 14 Simpson Jan 31, 2014 12:00 AM A A REDDING, Calif. — The seventh-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team beat up on No. 14 Simpson University again Thursday night, 45-6 at the Heritage Student Life Center. Top-ranked Brock Gutches won his marquee matchup against third-ranked Brady Beamon in a major decision at 174 pounds, bumping his overall record to 20-3. He also scored a major decision over Beamon in their first meeting this season. Tyler Cowger (149 pounds) improved to 14-6 for the Raiders with a pin of Redhawks senior Marco Fratantoni. Tucker Van Matre defeated Avery Buechner at 184 pounds. The Raiders are 6-3 in dual meets heading into another tonight at 18th-ranked Menlo. They defeated the Oaks, 30-18, in the season-opener on Nov. 9 in Ashland. Another triumph would clinch SOU's 44th consecutive winning season. SOU, which was ranked one spot behind the Simpson in the NAIA preseason rankings, also notched a 42-3 victory against the Redhawks on Dec. 19 in Ashland.
