After 20 years of lobbying, the school will finally get a stoplight on Highway 238 by fall of 2001. School will finally get traffic signal After some 20 years of campaigning, Oak Grove Elementary School will get a traffic light. The Oregon Department of Transportation has told the Medford School District that a signal will be installed at the school crossing on State Highway 238. The light is to be installed by fall 2001. Medford School district officials have sought the light for years because of the heavy traffic on Jacksonville Highway and the large number of students who cross daily to get to school. The crossing is considered to be so dangerous that the school district has provided extra bus service to save kids the walk. One bus run is expected to be eliminated once the protected walkway is established. The light is part of a larger state highway project involving the construction of sidewalks along the road. Also, highway officials will re-route the approach of school buses to reduce delays from buses entering the highway. The new signal will be set up to respond to traffic demands. When buses and children are not attempting to cross the highway, the light will remain green for Highway 238 traffic.
