SOU rallies to beat EOU ASHLAND � A year ago, Eastern Oregon took a big first-half lead on Southern Oregon and the Raiders never recovered. It was a different story Friday. The Raiders fell behind 16-3 but rallied for a 71-59 Cascade Conference men�s basketball victory at McNeal Pavilion. SOU improved to 10-7 overall and 4-2 in league play. EOU is 7-5 and 3-2. Tom Chipps helped SOU take the lead for good at 37-35 with 16:42 remaining. The Raiders bumped the margin to 15 with a 16-4 spurt culminating with a pair of free throws by Chad Paris at the 5:06 mark. The Mountaineers didn�t get closer than eight the rest of the way. Chipps poured in a game-high 24 points to pace SOU. He was 7-for-11 from the field and 8-for-9 on free throws. Chipps moved within 91 points of surpassing the school�s career scoring record. Southern hosts Albertson College at 7:30 tonight. Women�s Basketball ALBERTSON 60, SOUTHERN OREGON 50 � At Caldwell, Idaho, seventh-ranked Albertson turned up its defensive intensity to turn a 10-point deficit into a 10-point victory in Cascade Conference action. SOU (7-10, 4-1 Cascade) managed a 10-point lead with 11 minutes to play but couldn�t hold on as turnovers helped rally Albertson. Despite battling a flu bug, Jaime Stanford scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Raiders. Wrestling SOUTHERN OREGON DROPS TWO � At Portland, Southern Oregon moved up in class against NCAA Division I opponents Oregon and Oregon State and managed only one win against each school. The Beavers defeated Southern Oregon 43-3 in the morning, then the Ducks dealt the Raiders a 43-3 loss in the evening. Dan Sturgell (184) registered the Raiders� lone victory against the Beavers, and battled former Crater High wrestler Doug Lee tough before dropping a 10-8 decision to the Duck standout. Oregon State redshirt freshman Jed Pennell (165), an Illinois Valley High product, looked impressive with a fall against the Raiders� John Sills in 4:42.
