Rhodes struck out seven and walked three in his most dominant performance of the season. Seattle threatened to score in the second inning when it put runners on first and third with no outs, but Rhodes sidestepped trouble when he picked off Greg Fischer at first base and then struck out Ben Hillman and Erik Petersen. Medford scored runs in each inning, including six runs in the fifth when Chad Hegdahl and Brett Timmerman produced singles and Rob Folsom and Ryan Heil wacked run-producing doubles. Advertisement The Mustangs finished the game with eight doubles among their 16 hits, including two each by Folsom and Evan McArthur. Medford, which ran its record to 27-5 with the victory, returns to action today with a doubleheader against Beaverton at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham. Amateur Baseball SOUTHERN OREGON RIVERDOGS 2-11, VALLEY RANGERS 6-8 — Chuck Shine’s two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning put Southern Oregon ahead to stay in Game 2 of a doubleheader split at Miles Field. The RiverDogs (13-8) entered the sixth trailing 8-6 after Valley, a team from the Albany and Corvallis area, put a five-spot on the board in the top half of the inning. Dan Bruce led off the inning with a single for Southern Oregon, stole second, moved to third on Ken Halpin’s hit. He then came home after a wild pitch which also plated the hustling Halpin from second to tie the game. Brian Stock hit his first home run of the season, a two-run blast during a five-run third for the RiverDogs, and Bill Rowe extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a 3-for-4 performance. Shine finished with three RBIs. In the opener, left-handed pitcher Jimmy Baynes allowed only four hits to pick up a win for the Rangers. Steve DeClerck hit a solo home run — his second on the year — with two outs in the third inning. Halpin drove home the other RiverDog run with an RBI groundout in the seventh. Phil Ouellette had his 17-game hitting streak come to an end. FIRST GAME Valley Rangers.........................101 211 0 — 6 8 0 S.O.
