Rough day for the Raiders SOU's 11-game win streak comes to an end after dropping a pair of games at the Cascade Conference Kickoff Tournament ASHLAND - The Southern Oregon softball team had its school-record 11-game winning streak come to a screeching halt on Sunday. The Raiders (12-4, 2-2) fell to Eastern Oregon, 6-5, in the first game of the inaugural Cascade Conference Kickoff Tournament and lost to 17th-ranked Oregon Tech, 10-0, in the tournament finale. OIT won the tournament with a 4-0 mark after its win over SOU. The contest was shortened to five innings due to Tech's 10-run fourth inning explosion that broke up a scoreless pitching duel between regional all-stars Brandi Brown of SOU and Leslie Ernstrom of OIT. Brown, Southern's pitcher-of-record in all 16 contests this season, was working on a two-hitter when Owl All-American Megan Webber and regional all-star Leah Azevedo led off the fourth inning with singles. Both later scored on a Liz Hamblin sacrifice bunt coupled with a two-base Raider throwing error. SOU and Brown emerged from the disastrous inning only after eight more unearned runs on seven hits and two more Raider miscues. Webber finished 3-for-3 with two RBI, while freshman Grace Fagan was 2-for-3 with three RBI for Oregon Tech (21-5). Azevedo and Lindy Schneider also went 2-for-3. Ernstrom (10-1) surrendered only two hits and walked one for her third complete-game shutout of the season. In SOU's first game, EOU's Megan Brock hit a two-out, seventh-inning triple to deep right field that scored Katelyn Tatum from first base to punctuate Eastern Oregon's come-from-behind victory over the Raiders. Brock capped the two-run Mountaineer rally moments after the Raiders missed a chance to extend their school-record win streak to 12 straight. SOU led 5-4 with two out when Tatum popped to shallow center, but the ball fell between centerfielder Seanna Doyel and second baseman Haley Varley, which allowed Mountaineer Majalise Watson to score the tying run from third. Eastern Oregon (7-9, 3-1) staked a 2-0 lead with six hits in the opening two frames, but the Raiders stormed back for a 3-2 edge as a result of Brandi Brown and Stacey Marshall RBI singles, a Lisa Aitchison triple and a Mountie fielding error. Brown and Aitchison each finished 3-for-4 for SOU.
