Food drive needs you Thursday Dec 15, 2016 at 5:45 PM Dec 15, 2016 at 5:54 PM The Food for Hope drive is in desperate need of both food and cash donations to help families in need. With 15 days to go in the campaign, the drive has collected 5,513 pounds of food and raised $7,045 toward its goal of 30,000 pounds of food and $40,000 in cash by Dec. 31. The food and money collected from the Food for Hope drive will be used to keep 24 emergency food pantries fully stocked and provide seven local soup kitchens and the mobile food pantry with enough food to get through the winter months. A grocery bag was inserted into the Nov. 28 edition of the Mail Tribune, but any bag will do. For every dollar collected, ACCESS is able to provide five pounds of food or the equivalent of four meals. Suggested food donations include cold or hot cereals, peanut butter, canned meats such as tuna and chicken, pasta, canned soups, vegetables and fruits, and hygiene products such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste.
