April 27, 1946 - August 17, 2016 Kenneth "Ken" Ray Gerlitz, 70, of Medford Ore., passed away peacefully August 17, 2016 surrounded by family at his home. Ken was born April 27, 1946 in Sacramento, Calif. to Bonnie Reed and Sam Koftinow. He graduated from Stagg High School in Stockton in 1964. He married Cathy Dunn May 27, 1972 in Sacramento, Calif. A graduate of California State University, Sacramento, he spent most of his professional life working for the State of California as a rehab counselor, personnel analyst, and assistant manager of the affirmative action division. He retired early on disability and was a "Mr. Mom" for many years while his children were young. He later obtained a real estate license, and ended his career working with the Business Enterprise Program for the Oregon Commission for the Blind. The meaning of the name Kenneth is handsome, and he never stopped reminding people of this fact. He had a sense of humor that could brighten your day. He was an avid reader who enjoyed skiing, fishing, boating, and drinking with his buddies. As a lifelong counselor, he always wanted to help others to improve their lives and work through adversity. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Cathy Gerlitz; his three children, Justin Gerlitz (Michele) of Grants Pass, Ore., Stacy Ammerman (Jon) of Wailuku, Hawaii, and Luke Gerlitz (Allie) of Phoenix, Ore. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Kaylie, Preston, Andre, and another on the way. He was loved by all of his family and friends and will be missed dearly. Two gatherings, in aloha style, will take place to celebrate the life of Ken Gerlitz. The first will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the home of the Gerlitz Family. The second will take place at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Sacramento Elks Lodge #6 (6446 Riverside Blvd. Sacramento, Calif.)
