Enoch too much for Phoenix as North Valley rolls MERLIN - Phoenix knew Malloree Enoch was the player to stop in Saturday's District 6 playoff match against North Valley. But containing the high-scoring senior forward was a different matter. Enoch broke loose for all four goals as North Valley advanced in the playoffs with a 4-2 victory over the Pirates at Knights Stadium. North Valley will play at Henley 3 p.m. Tuesday, with a state post-season berth on the line. "It was the Malloree Enoch show," Phoenix coach John Doty said. "She scored on three breakaways and dribbled through the whole team on another." In North Valley's 3-1 regular-season victory over the Pirates, Enoch scored all three goals. And of the Knights 28 goals this season, Enoch has 21. Enoch opened the scoring at the fifth minute on a left-footed shot on the ground from 12-yards out that deposited inside the far post. Larrisa Wiltrout tied the game for the Pirates on an assist from Helen Shorland at the 11th minute. But Enoch gave North Valley a 2-1 halftime lead when she capitalized on a weak clearance by the Pirates' defense and boomed a shot from 25 yards just underneath the crossbar. Enoch struck again just three minutes into the second period. This time Enoch faked out goalkeeper Jaclyn Unruh and scored from close-in. Unruh was shaken up on the play and was later replaced in net by Kelly Singleton. Enoch completed her prolific offensive performance with a goal at the 62nd minute that put North Valley ahead 4-1. An assist went to North Valley keeper Karyn Allen, who made an outstanding save and then rolled the ball to Enoch, who took it the rest of the way. "She's (Enoch) got a ton of speed, she's got a whole lot of confidence and plays very physical," said Doty. Kim Tiger tallied for the Pirates on an assist from Wiltrout. Tiger's shot at the top of the box was deflected by Allen, but managed to find the net at the 70th minute. "Kim Tiger played her best match of the season," said Doty. "She had some quality shots on goal." But Allen was definitely a difference maker for North Valley. "She (Allen) had a heck of a final 12 minutes," said Doty. "She stopped four shots that against any other goalie in the league would have been goals. "If all we had to cope with was Malloree Enoch, I think we would have won the game," continued Doty. "But Malloree combined with Karyn was enough to get them through." District 6 Boys Soccer HENLEY 4, ROGUE RIVER 3, OT - At Klamath Falls, Joe Salvati scored the winning goal with just two minutes remaining in overtime of the district playoff match. Henley (8-7) will play at St. Mary's 2 p.m. Tuesday to decide the District 6 No. 3 seed in the state playoffs. Phoenix and Hidden Valley tied for the district title, but the Pirates won a coin flip for the league's top seed. Salvati scored when he took a pass from Stuart Ward on a give-and-go and placed a shot from 18 yards into the lower-left corner of the net. Rogue River took a 3-2 lead three minutes into overtime on Brazilian exchange student Henrique Penido's goal. Ward scored just before the end of the first of two 10-minute overtime periods to tie the match at 3-all. Penido gave Rogue River the initial lead 23 minutes into the game. Ward answered for the Hornets at the 35th minute as the teams went into halftime tied at 1-1. Rogue River went up 2-1 on a goal by Zachary Wilken four minutes into the second half. Reggie Vargas knotted the score for Henley with a score nine minutes before the end of regulation. Rogue River goalkeeper Fred Perryman helped keep the Chieftains in the match with some excellent play in the net. Skyline Volleyball ROGUE RIVER 15-15, NORTH VALLEY 10-7 - At Rogue River, Rogue River won the Skyline Conference playoff match and next visits third-place Phoenix on Tuesday in a match that will determine a state playoff berth. Skyline fourth-place finisher Rogue River (16-11) also defeated fifth-place North Valley in both regular season meetings. Katie Glasscock and Kristi Frederick combined for 25 kills to pace the Chieftains' front line. Rogue River only committed three hitting errors in the match. Glasscock also excelled on defense with a team-high nine digs. Alex Dean added eight digs and Ashleigh Artoff had seven. Rogue River used tough serving to keep the Knights off balance. The Chiefs registered four aces and missed four serves in the match. For North Valley, Whitney Coston and Elaina Renius each had eight kills, Ashley Schilling had five digs and Renius two blocks. The Knights finished 16-11 overall. Mail Tribune Home | Ottaway Newspapers, Inc. | Dow Jones & Co., Inc. | Privacy | Contact Us Copyright 2001 Mail Tribune, Inc.
