Cascade Christian girls pull off series sweep of rival Crusaders Cascade Christian girls basketball coach Loren King tried to leave St. Mary's guessing Tuesday in a Southern Cascade League tilt at Superior Gym. Senior post Kristin Salamone scored 16 points and King bombarded the young Crusaders with several different defensive looks during the Challengers' 59-44 victory. "We kept changing defenses on them, then Pete (Zappas) would change his offense," said King of his tactical battle with the St. Mary's coach. "It was a fun game. We got some shots to go in the second half and what happened more than anything was our defense tightened up." Cascade Christian found a little breathing room in the second quarter after a 17-all, first-quarter deadlock and went into the half with a 36-28 lead. The Challengers also used a 19-of-25 effort at the foul line to improve to 18-3 overall and 7-1 in the SCL. St. Mary's (3-5 SCL) held one of the Challengers' top offensive guns, Whitney Brookins, to four points. "I think they were set for Whitney because she's had some pretty good scoring games for us lately," said King. Amy Roseberg and Hannah Gettman added 15 points apiece for Cascade Christian. Annie Maurer led St. Mary's with a game-high 18 points. ST. MARY'S (44) - Maurer 18, Walden 6, Vaninetti 6, Fryer 7, Beckstead 7, Huizinga 0, Montan 0, Lanahan 0, Tomlinson 0, Boggess 0, Seus 0.
