Red Lion changes to Doubletree Hotel Jun 10, 1997 12:00 AM A A The Red Lion Inn in downtown Medford officially became a Doubletree Hotelin ceremonies Monday. Doubletree Hotels Corp. acquired the 56 properties from the Red LionHotels chain in November 1996. The company plans to invest more than $250,000 in the Medford property,including a new guest phone system, improved landscaping and improved signs. The staff including general manager Todd Thoreson remainsand there have been no major changes, he said. The new owner will provide a national advertising campaign and a nationalcustomer base; Red Lion was a regional chain. The national reservation numberis (800) 222-8733 (TREE). The Medford number remains 779-5811. Doubletree Hotels, based in Phoenix, Ariz., operates 242 hotels in 39states, Mexico and the Caribbean. The acquisition was intended to give Doubletree,which had only two hotels in the Northwest, a larger presence in the region.
