Wild River, well-known for serving pizza, calzones and local craft beer and wine, is trying to keep up with demand at each of its five locations in Southern Oregon. "The Grants Pass location has been up 8 percent, our Medford restaurant is up 11 percent, and Brookings and Cave Junction about 10 percent," said Sean Hobeck, the general manager of the Grants Pass restaurant. "That's been driving the brewery." If the city approves the plans, the building will total 11,500 square feet. The onsite brewery is expected to take up 2,000 square feet of the expansion. "We're going to have more consistent availability of our beers, and we'll have greater quantity of flavors," Scott Butts, Grants Pass brewmaster, said. Cooperage, or the number of beer kegs, is expected to go up, as well as additional tank space to facilitate more volume of beer being brewed. The expansion brings with it additional help, as well. "We have a new brewer who spends half his time in the kitchen and half his time in the brewery," Hobeck said. "We're up to a couple of full-time people and a couple of part-time people just working in the brewery alone, too." The city of Grants Pass has to approve building plans for the expansion, which includes sign-offs from the Department of Public Safety and Engineering. Said Hobeck: "Hopefully, they all say it's going to work."
