I’ve found a can of sardines not only tasty and low in calories, but filling. Looking over the "Nutrition Facts", I was surprised to see that this small can contained 70 milligrams of cholesterol. Is this healthy?" — Mark K, Medford OK, Mark. We’ll leave aside our opinion of how your breath must smell after snacking on sardines, and take your query to registered dietitian Christy Morrell. She says you’re doing all sorts of good for your body with your hairy little fishy consumption. (shudder) Like herring, mackerel and salmon, sardines are high in heart-healthy Omega 3 fatty acids. They also contain high amounts of "co-enzyme Q," which helps oxygenate blood cells. As for the cholesterol count of 70 milligrams, Morrell says not to worry. Advertisement "As an example, one egg has about 285 milligrams," Morrell says. "And the sardine has so many good fats to offer." So, as long as you don’t pair your anchovies with pepperoni pizza, you’re doing good. And don’t forget those breath mints, Bubba. Send questions to "Since You Asked," Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O.
