Man shot, assailant at large Friday Apr 7, 2017 at 4:00 PM By Troy Shinn Grants Pass Daily Courier One man was shot Thursday and the man who shot him remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous. The shooting happened about 5 p.m. at 96 Lower Wolf Creek Road. Law enforcement arrived to find one man on the ground with a gunshot wound. The shooter had fled. Josephine County Sheriff Dave Daniel said his deputies arrived first and secured the scene before turning the investigation over to OSP detectives. The Sheriff's Office does not have a detective division. "An extensive search was conducted by deputies," Daniel said. "Two people were detained. ... One of them had warrants but isn't necessarily a person of interest in the shooting." The man who was arrested, Zachary Micheal Costa, 33, was wanted on outstanding failure-to-appear warrants for meth possession and reckless burning. Law enforcement reported two sightings of the male shooting suspect in downtown Wolf Creek, though he is still at large. He was dressed in black pants and a black hoodie sweatshirt. He is considered armed and dangerous, and the investigation is ongoing. Daniel would not say whether officers have identified the suspect. The shooting victim, whose name was not released, was transported via Mercy Flights with non-life-threatening injuries to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford. His condition was not known. The 911 call apparently came in after two children ran to a home near the scene and reported that two men had been shot with a .30-06 hunting rifle. The children were placed into protective custody by law enforcement on scene. It is not clear whether the children are related to anyone on scene.
