After falling behind early, the Panthers came alive to post a 15-5, five-inning victory over Eagle Point at The Yard. South Medford (14-4, 10-3 SOC) capitalized on three home runs — none bigger than Logan Boyd’s three-run blast that capped a five-run rally in the third inning. That erased a 2-0 Eagles’ lead after the first two innings. "I thought Boyd’s homer put them in a different frame of mind," Eagle Point coach Tom Britton said. "It really broke our back even though we came back to tie it. His presence carried over to the rest of the team." Britton was ejected from a game against Roseburg Saturday and faced a one-game suspension, but he filed an appeal and was able to coach Tuesday. The Eagles (5-11, 2-10 SOC) used Nick Staller’s two-run triple and an RBI single by Shasta Bateman to tie the game 5-all in the bottom of the third. Advertisement But in the fourth, the Panthers sent 11 batters to the plate and scored eight runs on five hits, two errors and a walk. Dan Chancler had a three-run homer and Ryan Odell provided an RBI single and a solo home run to fuel the outburst. South Medford scored two more runs in the fifth on Justin Meyer’s second RBI single of the game and an RBI single by Mark Austad. Those two runs gave the Panthers a 15-5 lead and ended the game after Eagle Point failed to score in the bottom half due to the 10-run mercy rule. "The South kids jumped on our pitching," said Britton. "They’re an explosive club. From one through nine, they’re the toughest team in the league offensively." The Eagles bunched together four hits to score two runs in the first inning on Staller’s RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Bateman. "After the first two innings, I thought we were playing good baseball like we have been lately," said Britton. The Panthers had five players — Chancler, Austad, Meyer, O’Dell and Ben Koziol — with two hits each. Chancler and Austad each added three RBIs. CRATER 6, ASHLAND 4 — At Ashland, Jeff Weiss picked up his first victory of the year with a five-hitter, seven strikeouts and one walk for Crater (9-9, 6-7 SOC). Crater took the lead with a four-run fifth inning, which included four hits — two of them doubles. Tyler Schmidt doubled to lead off the decisive inning, and Shane Ogle drove in Schmidt with a double of his own. The third run scored when Tyler Davis’ single drove in Ogle. Schmidt finished with two hits, three runs and an RBI, and Davis had two hits for the Comets. Aaron San Nicholas belted a home run, and Sam Littleton went 2-for-2 with a triple to keep Ashland (4-14, 2-11 SOC) close. ROSEBURG 9, KLAMATH UNION 3 — At Klamath Falls, Eric Thompson’s no-hitter through six innings gave Roseburg (14-4, 12-1 SOC) what it needed. Thompson struck out 10 and had six walks. In the fifth inning, the Indians’ Aaron Buxton hit a solo home run, and Brandt Walker had a two-run double. Buxton went 2-for-4 and Quentin Clark went 2-for-5 with a home run. With the loss, Klamath Union dropped to 3-17 overall and 2-11 in the SOC. The Chieftains’ Gary Richardson capped a six-run seventh inning with a three- run triple. Richardson went 2-for-3 and Joey Parrillo went 2-for-4 (16-2, 10-1 Skyline).
